I have been working in IT for several years and would like to now venture into other fields, I am specific to Project Management only (from IT PM to other domain ex: Construction etc..) I am not sure what expertise would be required for it. Any thoughts please... Saving Changes...

You will find other threads under Discussions that touch on this topic, Mohammed.
While project management skills can be applied to any and every domain, you will find lack of industry/product knowledge a bit challenging. My suggestion is to find an industry subject matter expert who can work with you and fill that void. Saving Changes...
Thanks Stephane, I have have seen couple of articles in different places and they are indeed useful, although I look at it positively, but when ever I explore an option to move to another domain and look out for opportunities, we find at least 50% of mismatch between what is required and what we have. (my focus is on professional acceptance - job/consulting).
That could be one major hurdle majority of project management professionals stick to one domain through out their career cycle. Any thought... Saving Changes...

You are correct Mohammed: few customers will be willing to hire a PM, even if certified, unless they have some industry experience.
My only suggestion is to be creative in finding opportunities to gain the industry experience. Perhaps some volunteer work? Saving Changes...
That is exactly I thought of or May be an educational break to gain domain experience. But one of the major point here is are we prepared to take a step backward in our career at this point of time? It's almost impossible not just for financial reason, but for fast pace of happening in professional project management circle.
Thanks for your insightful thought. Saving Changes...

Each time you start working in a new domain you need to perform a critical activity: elicitation. And to do that you need to prepare for elicitation. Search into the CMU SEI site to understand the process to follow to prepare for elicitation and the tools and techiniques you can use to do that. Saving Changes...
Thanks Sergio for your note. Do you mean if I want to change industry domain for project Management, then I should do critical elicitation? Sorry, may be I could not get it clear, would you please elaborate please.
It seems to be a good suggestion. Saving Changes...

I have been working in multiple domains while my basement is system. The first thing I have to do (and it is what you will find is the recomendation) is to take knowledge about the domain after you perform the first activity. That is elicitation. Saving Changes...
