I have been searching to see what is recommended for PM resumes. I am transitioning from a different career and will be graduating with a graduate PM certificate soon. I have seen resumes with and without graphics, chronological and functional. What is recommended? Saving Changes...

Résumé with graphics makes more sense for senior technical people.
Because I have more than 30 years of relevant work experience, I usually start with a functional résumé. The chronological résumé comes in handy, when I have to fill out a RFP role fit.

Stephane,
I agree. I usually submit a functional resume (with background graphical resume attached) but I bring a graphical resume to the interview. You always get asked about experience and showing them on a timeline or another graphic to support quantitative results is always commented upon and accepted well.

Thank you. That makes sense. But that really makes the inexperience stick out, doesn't it? I have found that functional resumes had only confused the recruiter and stopped using them. Have you found that? Saving Changes...

Functional résumés work best when you have a lot of experience. If that is not your case, then a chronological c.v. is in order.
I, personally, do not recommend putting a photo in your résumé, unless it is for arts-related activities. (Yes, I do have one of those.)
Other things to avoid: personal information such as age or sex as well as personal hobbies that do not help you professionally. (I list my Toastmasters accomplishments in my résumé but not my ballroom dancing.)

It is also important to focus on things that you have achieved rather than on things that you have done.
In the past I have worked with a freelance PM consultant who said "They hired me for what I know, not for what I do".
INHO, creating a balanced CV which mixes abilities, skills and accomplishments shall lead to higher odds of finding a challenging opportunity. Good luck! Saving Changes...

I understand your visual penchant, Steven. As someone who does recruiting - yes, I am a resource manager at times - I find the graphical indicators on a résumé gimmicky.
Don't get me wrong, you do want your résumé to stand out. To me, the graphs are equivalent to too many type fonts.

Yes, my wife, Anne Marie, and I started thirty years ago. It's a great couple activity. It's also a great networking opportunity.
I always suggest to people not to reveal too much of themselves too early. It's nice to use your extra-curricular activities for ice breakers.
