I have been searching to see what is recommended for PM resumes. I am transitioning from a different career and will be graduating with a graduate PM certificate soon. I have seen resumes with and without graphics, chronological and functional. What is recommended? Saving Changes...

Stephane,
I agree. I usually submit a functional resume (with background graphical resume attached) but I bring a graphical resume to the interview. You always get asked about experience and showing them on a timeline or another graphic to support quantitative results is always commented upon and accepted well.
I understand your visual penchant, Steven. As someone who does recruiting - yes, I am a resource manager at times - I find the graphical indicators on a résumé gimmicky.
Don't get me wrong, you do want your résumé to stand out. To me, the graphs are equivalent to too many type fonts.

I'm glad we agree on this.
It's a fine line between value and plain differentiation.
I have seen some resumes visually done well, but always at the interview stage. I've never been a resource manager, but I've been in enough interviews to see what works and what doesn't. A good resource manager is looking for competence and reads in-between the lines. Am I close Stephane?

You are quite right, Stephen. The trick is not to just read what's there but also what's not.

Stephane,
Wait....you can ballroom dance? When did you learn this. I feel like this should be community knowledge ;)
Yes, my wife, Anne Marie, and I started thirty years ago. It's a great couple activity. It's also a great networking opportunity.
I always suggest to people not to reveal too much of themselves too early. It's nice to use your extra-curricular activities for ice breakers.

That is fantastic. One that you have a couples activity you are both so passionate about and another you've been married for 30 years. Congrats on both fronts!!

This is where I must correct your pronunciation of my name.
It's steven with "V".
I haven't gotten to Stephane's level to properly use the "ph". One day maybe....
