I'm looking for your input on requirements managements tools:

1) Do you think they hold value for the organization?

2) What are your experiences using them

Steven,

I just received an email from PM today that contains a whitepaper about this specific subject:

http://go.jamasoftware.com/requirements-so...tm_source=pmcom

Check it out and download the paper, it might help resolve part of your concerns.

I find it useful to be honest especially on big projects as it helps define, organize and control all requirements in a clear and manageable way.

Seilevel and Gartner each have one for 2015. Thank you for the share.

I'm more looking for personal experiences and opinions.

Tools always have a place however prior to utilizing a tool I think it is essential to have some best practices and common processes around requirements gathering/management. The tool alone won't solve any problems that exist around poor practices for gathering and managing requirements.

Thanks Gina, great points!

While I agree a tool is just a tool, and definitely agree people "make" the tool....or break it.

One thing I disagree with is the value of it. The efficiencies in traceability and audit alone have done wonders in the projects I've worked on. Does anyone else have negative or positive experiences around this?

I do have very positive experience in requirements management besides traceability and audit. Like you said, the efficiency of the latter combined with requirements management can significantly enhance the project performance and reduce risk.
