BA Maturity

Do you think the PMI will help or hinder the BA practice in terms of overall maturity?

I suppose BA and PM holding hands and embarking on a journey together is a beginning of a new success story. PMI would never hinder BA excellence but would actually be a cause to support BA work prior to, during and after a project is undertaken.

PM = Execution

I know that is extremely over simplified, but the PMI Pulse of the Profession clearly linked lack of value through improper requirements (BA) to project failures. The poor PMs are being blamed because of an immature BA practice.

Is it the BA is immature or organization/strategy/steering committee is immature. It takes two hands to clap.

This is why strategy alignment is of prime importance. Initially the project is driven from top by the organizational needs and later during execution project is driving the top with the help of governance and change management and communication should be continuous and stakeholder engagement should be sustained throughout.

I agree with everything in your second paragraph, all of that is important.

But I stick to my statement, the BA role as a whole is immature. Despite it not being a new role it still lacks discipline and rigor.
