Based on the definition of assertive behavior:
"Characteristics of human behavior which is the ability to express clearly and effectively their emotions and opinions"
have you ever experienced the effectiveness of this approach in the practice of project management?
do you think this approach is the correct one or you have experienced other ones more effectively?

Great article. Assertive communication is a special meaning for Japanese project managers.
Generally Japanese engineers are not so good at negotiation. They are too humble. They easily give in the customer order, and trying to handle it by their technical skills. That is one of the main reasons of failed projects.
Lots of companies are now introducing the assertive communication training.

Thanks Kenji,
I agree whit you, assertive communication skills could help to go over this obstacle.i have other consideration: if they handle by their technical skills they are using only the rational intelligence but not the emotional one which is supported by empathy. These one are, on my point of view the basis for a good negotiation and should accompany assertive communication training.
What is your opinion about it?

I totally understand your point of view. "Rational intelligence" are the basis for a good negotiation, but not enough.
Their roles are more than just a analysts, reviewers and commentators especially in the tough situation.

Yes, it is correct but you have to consider that an "excess" of rational intelligence could be counterproductive because could contribute to raising walls that prevent you to see a wider horizon... in other words rational intelligence could block the practice of lateral thinking

Assertive behavior is best always since it involves Emotional Intelligence. E.Q also means understanding our own emotions/understanding others feelings and emotions and communicate/express accordingly!
I agree whit your comments, we cannot be assertive without Emotional intelligence which, necessarily, should be "trained" and "strengthened" with a constant practise
