Many ERP vendors provide project templates, of which data migration would be treated as a sub-project within. As mentioned in an earlier response each ERP vendor will have migration tools available for converting master data and a certain transactions into their databases/systems. Suffice to say there's a lot of upfront planning involved, mapping of data from one (old) system into another (new), scrubbing and reformatting of legacy (old) data, etc. before migration can occur.
