I'm planning to move to Calgary from the UK in April /May this year and I’d like to develop some contacts who work there and who would be happy to spend half an hour or so on the phone/skype with me telling me about their role and their opinion of the jobs market. Nothing too onerous :). Anyone happy to help?

Thanks Yasir for reply. I was expecting that the low oil price would be hurting, but are there not sectors less affected?

Actually, the question was for M Gray, Yasir. I was asking him why he chose Calgary as opposed to other cities as the place to move. I agree with your assessment of economic conditions in the city (and province) at this time.

Hi Mike, we started out by visiting Vancouver a number of years ago, but house prices are expensive there and so we decided to check Calgary out. I want to be near to mountains (I like skiing). Calgary ticked a lot of boxes - relatively affordable housing, plenty of sunshine days, and (then) a bouyant jobs market.
Actually I don't know Canada that well - it's such a large country and in truth I really don't know where to go other than the 2 cities we've visited.
