Overview Open Space Technology is a meeting method that helps individuals and groups become more effective in work environments that are rapidly and constantly changing by developing their skills as collaborative problem solvers and lifelong learners. Open Space Technology captures the knowledge, experience and innovation in the organization not captured through conventional closed system processes.
It is a selforganizing practice guided by a mix of collective activity and personal commitment, releasing inherent creativity and leadership in participants. By inviting people to take responsibility for what they care about, Open Space establishes a marketplace of inquiry, reflection and learning, bringing out the best in the whole group, community or organization.
Because the nature of this process is open, risks are high; once the “door is opened” there is no turning back – committing the sponsor to support activities defined by the group.

QUESTION: It said in the body that Open Space Technology process is high risk. Why, in what sense it is considered as high risk?

One thing to remember with an Open Space event is that we don't know what will happen. If you create an Open Space based on good thinking, creating, celebrating, and just being together may reveal surprises from the safe and open forum felt my the participants.Participant voices will be heard on bold themes that will result in new thought and often intense conversation.This can result in some risks to the leader,facilitator, conveyor, and participant.

It can also be risky as there is usually no formally defined leader role so it is possible that someone with a hidden agenda might emerge as a leader to drive the discussions and outcomes towards their own objectives.
