PMI has identified Leadership as a vital competency for project, program and portfolio management. Along with Strategic and Business Management and Technical Project management, it makes up the PMI Talent Triangle™.

In your opinion, how important is leadership to success in projects and programs? What is your leadership style? What does your organization do to promote good leadership? What steps can practitioners take to become stronger leaders?

*Your answers may appear in a future issue of PMI’s Passport Credential Newsletter.

There is a gap between what leadership really means and what organizations understand and mainly want about a leader. Unfortunatelly leadership has become a new type of buzzword today. On the other side, the style that have been working for me along the years is "servant leadership".

Leadership plays a pivotal role towards the success of any project. My leadership style is simply "Lead by Example" - If you want people to believe in you, lead them by explaining, work with them, supporting with them and always start with yourself.

Most of the organization I've worked with they do promote good leadership in many ways be it by training, recognizing and promoting from within.

Leadership is born with you, if comes delivered with the package so the more you mature and depending on how you work on this naturally born skill, it will develop by being strong, neutral or weak.

Today in many organisation we have project leaders in place of project managers. Leadership plays a key role in project management. It comes with a learning attitude, forward & positive thinking, motivation, respect and guidance. This quality can be developed by self motivation, reading, listening and by the influence of great leaders. Learn from your each mistake and adapt good habits in routine to become an effective leader.

Leadership alone is dangerous; you can seen the wrong leaders around the world. It should always be with a great sense of responsibility.
