Before to answer my question I would like to explain what i define Humility: I don't consider the humility with a negative meaning (feeling inferior to others and have little self-esteem) but as the serene awareness of our limits - seen as something natural and characteristic of all human beings - and their quality - seen as equally natural and present in all people - as well as the ability and opportunity to learn from everything and everyone.
I think that, in this meaning, humility is an important strength for a leader because allows to connect better whit other people and allows to identify the most important characteristics and qualities of others.
Do you agree with my consideration? and, if you don't agree, for which reason?
Thanks
Fosco

I totally agree with you Fosco that Humility is one of the important characterstics that a leader should possess.
If a person has humility then only he thinks other people may have better ideas and can give room to others to express their views/ideas and create an open communication.

thanks Bala for your comment. Elaborating your last consideration we can affirm that Humility helps to "turn on" a synergistic process on behalf of the project.
Do you agree with this my affirmation?

Well, simple answer is "Yes". Good leaders should understand the limitation of human and listen to others. However, there is a risk of using Humility in the wrong way and that results in procrastination of decision. A good leader should know when to stand up when there are multiple and perhaps contrasting opinions, otherwise the organization will lose direction.

Thanks Dominic for your comments. I agree with you: the risk of procrastination is real but, on my opinion, is not directly related with the humility but, probably, whit the lack of confidence by the leader. As you affirmed in the last part of your comment the discussion is necessary and important but, at least, arrives the time where we must take a decision.

If you are a gentlemen, you can connect with team better than others.

Humility allows to identify the qualities of others. However as Dominic said above we should take care, It can go in the wrong direction.

A good project manager should use humility with a care to avoid chaos of opinions. Sometimes, It may be treated as leadership weakness by the team. However one can compensate it with his firmness on decision matters.

After survive to multiple managemet styles along the years applied for my managers I found that servant leadership is the most effective. Inside the model there is not an attribute related to humility. On the other side, humility is related to recognize the proper strenght and weekness. And that is always important to improve yourself.

Thanks Sergio for your comment, your point of view is very interesting. I agree around the servant leadership and agree regarding humility is not an attribute of it. In any case I think the humility can influence it due to the recognition of our strength and weakness allow to consider that the others are "affected" by strength and weakness too and, in this manner we can apply the correct "dose" of flexibility

100% agree. Humility is also the capability to fairly understand what is happening around you: somebody with a smarter idea, some very bad (or very good) project decision you took. When it is time to 'speak-up' or when it is better to listen to better understand what is going on...I think it is not by chance that between the brightest mind, artist, engineers etc...I had the luck to know, most of them were amazingly humble

I agree that Humility is an important characteristic in a leader. I believe it allows him/her to complete a full 360 degree look at a process/problem. The focus is on the issue/task not the leader or the people.. Those around the leader can feel that and it allows them space to step up and grow.. If you haven't already, you may want to read the book "Good to Great" by Jim Collins, it has some data around successful leaders and how humility plays a part..
