Hi ,
I am a recent graduate from Colorado State University in the field of Master of Computer Information Systems. I had a Project Management course in my program which instilled my interest in Project Management Careers. I found it is very hard to break into the career field without proper certification and credentials. I initially wanted to do PMP but i don't have much work experience. Can someone suggest a good certification for me to do to get a foot in the door in the industry. I did my research , online blogs suggested CAPM , Scrum Master etc... But i am confused on what to choose. I have a Masters Degree along with the 35 PDU hours. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Saving Changes...

You can go for CAPM . Later you can do PMP after you have experience. If Scrum master suits to your current work, you can go for it.

Idea is to do PMP when you have requisite experience and CAPM will be a foundation. CAPM will help you to gain knowledge about Project management and at the same time you will be distinguished among others.

With your master you should take a look to CMU SEI certifications. On the other side, before earn a certification, you have to get work experience. The certification will not give value to you without work experience in the field.

I agree with Sergio. The core objective of PMP certification is demonstrate your expertise and experience in PM body of knowledge. The only way you could gain expertise is through work experience. Considering your current scenario, i would recommend to read and understand the certification book of knowledge. After gaining requisite work experience one can go for PMP. You can go for CAPM, which will give you foundation level information on what PMI expects and also train you on PMI way of testing. Saving Changes...

Hi Dahinesh ,
In my opinion you should go for CAPM.It will give you theoretical knowledge of project management working which you can implement into your work.
Moreover ,you can go forward with PMP once you get required experience.
As far as Scrum is concerned it is also good to have but it is more related with agile working.If your current organization is following it then you can opt this certification also. Saving Changes...
