How do you improve communication in your team?
Which initiatives do you do to improve communication?
How do you improve your personal communication skills?
I think that the first point is to listen more the other persons. Any other suggestion? Saving Changes...
A lesson I continue to learn lately is that I need to stop assuming that the receiver will understand what I'm trying to communicate. This is particularly important when communicating with team members and other stakeholders who live in different cultures.
Hopefully that whitepaper will provide some insights. Communication is a topic we cover extensively in our People and Projects Podcast: http://PeopleAndProjectsPodcast.com
Have a wonderful start to your week! Saving Changes...

Hi Paolo, First you need to work on making a very solid Communication plan and stick to it and have it include all stakeholders.
Sending the right people the right information at the right time is a very efficient method and always maintain contact with key stakeholders. Do gatherings from time to time.
As Andy mentioned, there are endless suggestions. You need to be creative. Saving Changes...

It's important to know the culture of the team. Nowadays itās very common to work in multicultural team, and I have found than even with people of countries where its supposed donāt have language barrier like Latin-American countries speaking the same language, you would find important issue communicating due to cultural issues. Paolo,
Here are my recommendations for improving communications:
* Hold "All Hands" Meetings with your team to review achievements, current status and reiterate the goals/vision of your project. Scheduling these quarterly seem to be best frequency I have found.
* Encourage openness and allow a safe space for team members to escalate issues to you and or other management. People need to understand you will not "shoot the messenger" when there is bad news. Having this in place will let you and your team deal with issues more efficiently.
* I agree with Rami - have a Communication Plan and stick to it.
* Conduct "Project Health Checks" to collect feedback from your team on what is working (or not working) and where improvements can be made.
* Project blogs or project wikis are another useful too for communications outside emails and meetings.

The first and critical thing is to understand what communication means. When you read this you will think "is a silliness". But after that I encourge you to take a look to things like Norman Abramson“s "Information Theory and Coding" that will help to understand about communication, about things like knowledge management and about things like "big data" (an ancient environment with a new buzzword). When you carefully understand the basement you will understand the importance to plan the communication in terms of the transmitter, the media, the channel, the receiver and all related to the type of message. While everything you listen outside there (mainly regarding soft skills) are fully valuable my recomendation is to understand the basic. Remember: the world still works according the three Newton Laws.

There can be plenty of suggestion.
In short communication means sending information from sender(you) through coder(language, verbal, non-verbal, body language etc), medium(interpersonal, email, meeting etc), decoder(translator) to receiver. There are sometime noise between the communication, It is your responsibility as a sender to ensure your message receives properly. So here comes the feedback.
We read in books lot about the verbal, non verbal medium and language of communication. If you want to be effective read them and coach your subordinates .
In project management communication plan means you identify who require an information and why. Accordingly it is managed.
