Hi. I'm looking for a tool or process that will help me divvy out projects to my team of PMs accurately. Any suggestions? Saving Changes...

Hi TeTanya,
Can you give me a little more clarity on what you mean by "accurately"? I know that in our practice, different types of projects will be better served by different project managers, so are you looking at a way to identify the best PM for a given project, or just to allocate projects of a given scope based on resource availability? Hi Eric,
Thanks for your response. I am looking for the latter, a way to allocate projects based on resource availability- with an understanding of how much work can be considered "too much" work various PM roles (i.e. PM1, PM2 or Sr. PM, etc.) Saving Changes...

unless you have good data on how long and how many hours each task takes in your database - good luck. You will be just guessing.
Excel is good enough to keep track of all team members and their projects and hours. If you have larger team, then maybe you can invest into something more sophisticated but Excel is simple enough and will do the work.

Thank you Mounir. I am actually in progress of creating a spreadsheet with these details. It sounds like I may be headed in the right direction. Many thanks for your guidance.

TeTanya, welcome on board.
You need to have an estimate of how many hours you anticipate for each project / task. You also need to look at your resources calender and histograms and from there you can put all the data on excel like Mounir mentioned and you can get a quite good but approximate idea. You need to have previous data or current estimates as if you base your assignments on guessing, that would be a very high risk.

Hi Rami,
Thank you so much for the welcoming message.
As I have just informed Mounir, I am working towards a spreadsheet which will outline my team members, each project they are currently assigned, hours estimated per project and expected duration. I'm hopeful this will give me the information needed to show who I should assign more/less projects.
I definitely want to stay clear of the guessing game. It wouldn't help anyone on my team, especially me. Have a great day! Thanks again!
