For example in a team of 20 people who work on Microsoft/Java technology and on different products (for e.g out of 20, 4 people work on java product A ... 3 on java product B ... 6 on .Net product C ... and 7 on .Net product D) so will it be a good idea to have each team member from .Net technology gain knowledge on each product being developed in .Net, same way for Java. (so everybody knows everything approach)
OR built a product experts with specific .Net/Java product knowledge. (so somebody knows everything approach)
In my opinion building product experts with specific technology is good idea (Specific Approach) but would like to know comments from others as well. and pros and cons of both approaches that you might have faced in your experience if you have faced this same situation. Saving Changes...

That is not a project manager decision. The project manager has to perform project stakeholder analysis and have to define a plan for managing them. All about you mentioned is a matter of the subject matter expert that will be part of the project stakeholders. Saving Changes...

I don't have experience in the situation you described, anyway a consultant wherewith I worked in the past for a software development improvement project told me that in his company was introduced a specific approach (for example a developer not only specialized in a technology but also in a specific part of a product, for example form developer specialist rather than database specialist) with good results.
IMHO surely a specific approach is more efficient, but it is needed to consider that also the generic approach has its own pros:
- major interchangeability of the resources
- possibility to know everything approach and so improve personal knowledge
so probably I would build a specific product experts and arrange periodic meetings to share the various approaches and solutions in order to obtain some advantage of the generic approach.
I hope to have centered the point and hope it is useful. Saving Changes...
