Hello All,

I have recently completed the PMP Certification and going forward I would like to know, what is the best way to utilize PMP Certification. In my company right now, I didn't get chance to showcase my PMP strength or in other words we don't follow all the processes to handle IT Software project because of various reasons like customer pressure, pressure from management etc.

Let me know what are the other area where I can utilize my PMP Certification ?

Thanks in Advance !

Start spreading your knowledge in form of answering on forums, writing blogs , paper presentation.
Try is possible to apply PMP knowledge to small area in your project, so hopefully when people understand the power of PMP standard they will give you more responsibility.

Hello Sanjeev,

well, the most obviously option would be to change the employer to one who does care about good project management, right?! But this is mostly not that easy, i know.
Another option would be to search for volunteer options; you will find some on the PMI website (as a member).
But the best option from my perspective would be just to start applying your knowledge into your daily work and into the given processes.
Even the longest way starts with the first step; you just have to make it.
Do not expect to change your company whole approach on projects from one day to the other.
If you just beginning to apply th best/good practices you have learned, your colleagues and your employer will sooner or later recognize. Work thorugh convincement; it is the best way anyway.

Best of luck!

Congrats Sanjeev.
Attaining certification is the first step and for maintaining it you need to earn PDUs for which you need to learn through some webinars, volunteering and there is no point in learning without sharing.
So in short utilize your PMP by learning and sharing.

Hi Sanjeev,

Lots of companies believe in project management processes and PMIism, there are few who still follow old school of thought of proprietorship and follow theory X, if you belongs to such company, please be careful with your plans.

I belongs to one of those company where I am working since past five years as project manager. I have passed PMP certification exam in Jan 16, I disclosed this info after one week with my Sr. managers and CEO with nicely drafted email and informed that I have passed PMP certification exam, guess what happen next? I am about to lose my job :)

They are eagerly looking for my replacement :)

So be careful when you inform your management and try to implement PM processes, they might get offended so be polite and careful, I agree with Markus to search for a company believe in process and managements.

Thanks,

I found the best way to promote PMP is by doing. You have mastered a new skill that others around may not know about / or care about ... It is incumbent upon you to show them how a PMP certified Project manager acts in any situation. How do you plan, how do you communicate, how do you track, document and complete your work? Your actions will speak much louder than words. Congrats fellow PMP.

First, let me say, there is no company in the world that not follow one of the process defined inside the PMBOK or similar. If you search then you will find that in some way (formally or informally) they are working with scope, risk, time, etc, etc. Second, if you are PMP then you can use all your learn in your company. Thrid, you will not use the certification. The certification said nothing about you (search for the certification defiition inside the certification handbook) except that you are able to use what you learn. The best way to get expertisse as project manager is to continue inside the organization you describe and to be an agent of change. You have to apply what you learn in the way best suited for your environment no matter the organization is aware. When you see that you are creating a change in the whole organization about project management then you have own a doctorate in project management. The situation you describe is the best to become a senior project manager. In the minetime search for some mentor inside the PMI local chapter.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I am totally agree with your all the point's but to showcase my expertise/skills I need to have right opportunity at right time. I will wait for the right opportunity and help management to understand the importance of Project Management.

I found sharing/transferring the knowledge is a good idea going forward. This will keep me updated and also help to grow my network.

Congrats Sanjeev on achieving this milestone, you might want to start by getting some PDU's for the next cycle. If part of your role in projects is to provide things like project status or planning you can easily throw in a few templates that reflect best practice when communicating with stakeholders,(if this is not against your company policy), and whatever you do , DO NOT stay far from projectmanagement.com, I learn something new here everyday..... ...........PMI-PMP's saving the WORLD since 1969...

Hello Sanjeev,
I believe there are 2 or more options , the Live Webinars and the On-Demand webinars, the On-Demand is pretty much a live webinar you did not catch up with, you get PDU's for watching either live or recorded webinars. Information on what type of PDU's you are qualified to get is stated under the topic of each webinar. You can also take part in Virtual conferences and seminars, I believe there is one coming up in March (PMI Scheduling Conference 2016) ensure you register for this, events like this are awesome and FREE. Make use of the Webinar and Event sections for such information..... see you around

Congratulations Sanjeev.

I would say:

1- Try influencing the company decision makes to start following the processes by providing cost benefit analysis of how would these processes improve the operations.

2- Volunteer

3- Participate in Forums, Discussion, Write Articles

4- Last resort would be as Markus mentioned to change the employer.
