What is a typical estimation ratio, ‘Estimated PM engagement hours /Total Estimated Project hours’ you use in your industry for the below. What is PMI standard or recommendation?

Example What would you use if it’s a 5000 hours project of medium complexity, 5-6 Vendors involved, > 5 teams (2 members minimum) to be completed in 6 months?

1. Complex Enterprise Project with >10 functional areas, Multiple Markets/Regions in US >5 Teams of various sizes (2-10), >5 vendors, Testing, interfaces and Integration involved.

2. Medium Complexity Project

Please mention framework you use for the estimation.

The rate is 20%-25% of total project duration. But with that say you will find that it will depends on a lot of factors where the most important is organizational maturity about project management.

I agree with Sergio.
A typical rate of 20% is used. 30% for complex project.

Sergio is on point (as usual),
it depends heavily on the organizations maturity level in project management.
If organization is on a lower level than the ratio could be at 40% and more easily.
15 - 25% is usual in our industry/company (IT Outsourcing).

Markus
