Project scope in the contract is full holes which is leave a lot of guess to customer expectations... Do we call a do over or continue to block and tackle through the whole project? Saving Changes...

Markus & Sergio,
Now I understand your point of views better and fully agree with your explanation and approaches. You are both right. I am not a BA expert though I want to pursue it soon and was just wondering how Scope and BA interacts and you definitely helped me understand this better.
Thanks Gentlemen.

No problem Rami. To be honest there is a lost of missunderstanding in the market. I have the opportunity to work from the "genesis" of business analysis role closelly the IIBA including my participation in the last version of BABOK and helping organizations around the world to implement the role. As you know the PMI is taking directly participation about all related to role right now (but in fact the PMI and the IIBA has tried to get an agreement to work together from 2003). The important thing is when people like you that have lot of experience have no problem to make some research and to know more about the role.

Thanks Sergio, you are right, research is very important as much as expert opinion is. We need to be exactly aware of all roles involved and thats what I always tend to do.

Markus,
Thanks a lot - I agree with you and I will have to start reading about PBA and Agile in order to prepare myself.
I also find discussions here very valuable and fruitful as hearing different point of views from different professionals is absolutely beneficial as was the case in this discussion thread here.
It is always a pleasure discussing with you Markus - Very Constructive and Great Discussions :-)

It is not unusual for holes to be present in scope, since it usually evolves before and during the project.
A good example is how we often start with a request for proposal. This RFP is answered by supplier's proposals. The process to get to these usually involves getting answers where things are unclear in the RFP.
The lucky supplier whose proposal gets picked then gets to negotiate a contract. While the contract usually does not cover the scope itself, it often provides a framework for its understanding.
When you finally start the project, you may want to do a due diligence as part of the planning phase. This exercise allows you to confirm/infirm assumptions, constraints and risks. This also add an additional level of scope understanding.
At the end of the day, a hole is simply a lack of understanding or clarity. Sit down with the client and, given the RFP, the proposal and contract documents, see what is missing to completely understand that piece of scope. The new clarity may reveal missed requirements. Again all your documents will guide how to deal with the missed requirements. Saving Changes...
