I'm attaching the questions I would like tou ask you. I'm trying to get a flavour of how p.mgrs find managing ecommerce projects as opposed to traditional projects. I work as a PM myself, and I've just moved into the ecommerce area a year ago.

Please review the attached file [attachment missing]. In my opinion it is no harder to be a PM on an eCommerce project than on a traditional one other than for re-teaching the importance of project processes. I keep asking the question, "If we don't have time to do it right, where are we going to find the time to do it over?" The is the question I ask when I am told the following, "We don't have time to follow those processes, we're on Internet Time." Yea, and look at all the dotcoms that thought that same way and no longer exist. Saving Changes...

This concept of "re-teaching" is actually very rich. It involves proper communications to the workforce, effective interactions with individuals and teams, walking the talk, coaching, managing change, and more. There are constant pressures that eliminate previous lessons learned (from not following processes) from being "sticky" in the mind. Somehow the lessons eventually just float away. Mary Ann, your response was definitely "e-commerce wisdom." Saving Changes...

Having been on both traditional and ecommerce projects in both PM and third party observer roles I can honestly say that you forget the principles of project management at your peril if running an ecommerce project. Infact you probably have to be more rigorous in applying them, because like driving a car faster you need to react quicker otherwise you find yourself bent around a tree! Saving Changes...
