George, if you are interested in more specific information, I strongly recommend you drop an email to the PMI-PBA Product Manager at PMI. She can be reached at [email protected]. I have seen some materials she has created that I think can help you further.

Hi George,

I echo Sergio and Laura's comments in that you should do a vendor assessment and try to predict what will be the future market demand for the certifications. In addition to the questions Laura posed, here are a few more to mull over. Which organization will highlight the role more successfully? Note that there are over 100K who have associated themselves with the Business Analysis/Requirements Management community here within ProjectManagement.com (only a subset of PMI membership). Compare that to the IIBA membership. Membership, the community, WE are the lifelines of these organizations. Where do you see more activity and more opportunities to connect with other Business Analysis practitioners worldwide? How does the value of each certification and membership in one organization compare to the other? Which organization can I count on to provide business analysis resources (white papers, webinars, blog posts) as part of my membership in order to maintain my certification?

PMI has recently produced a couple of short videos highlighting how PMI has invested in business analysis that may help answer some of these questions:
Part 1: https://youtu.be/MLSLRy8x9y0
Part 2: https://youtu.be/oPbG1PdrJpw

I've done the analysis and I know what the answers are for me. Each person needs to see which organization resonates with them and what they hope to achieve from certification. Do what we do best as analysts...analyze the situation :)

Anyone has links for sample Q/A for PMI-PBA test?

Basically would like to see the type of questions asked and compare the gaps I may have with the CBAP theory.

Be careful following some of the logic put forth in these articles which indicates the PMI-PBA is narrowly focused. This is simply not true. You only need to pick up PMI's Business Analysis Practice Guide and see the chapters on Needs Assessment and Solution Evaluation to know these rumors are not factual. PMI's Foundational Standard in Business Analysis currently being drafted builds upon the success of the practice guide and both are leveraging extensive PMI research with regards to the role of the business analyst. It's easy to confine PMI's products into a project space, because you assume the organization focuses only on project management, but its simply not true. The PMI-PBA is a valuable certification for career business analysts, a strong contender in the marketplace.
