I would like to learn:

How much time they needed to fully understand and study prior the exam?

Is it encouraged to attend a course or may be studied from books, webinars, etc?

Websites for mock up exams?

Does the certification also has a validity of 3 years, which may be renewed upon earning of PDUs?

Thanks in advance to your replies.

Hello Eduard,

since there is no "PBI" certification avalaible i do assume you are talking about the PMI-PBA certification, right?

If so, than please check out this official page

http://www.pmi.org/certification/business-analysis-pba.aspx

for some basic information.

Since i also do preparation for PBA actualy we could change some more information about courses, websites etc.

Regards,

Hi Eduard,

With respect to time to prepare for the exam, it really depends on the individual. I have been performing business analysis activities as part of my job for over 10 years and also teach business analysis courses. I was therefore very familiar with business analysis and the terminology used so did not require as much study time.

Perhaps to gauge where you are, I suggest you read through the PMI BA Practice guide and ensure you’re comfortable with the content. Although the PMI-PBA exam is not based on a single book or reference material, I think that would be a great starting point.

Whether you attend a course or not…unfortunately my answer is again, it depends. There are some who are disciplined enough to pick up a book and self study. There are others (like myself) who are great procrastinators where the course forces you to set time aside to study and provides an opportunity to obtain feedback on areas that may be troubling you. Although I personally did not take a course for this certification as I was already very familiar with the content, I have taken boot camp courses for other certifications in the past and found them very helpful. If you do decide to take a course, I recommend that you do your research to determine what format works best for you (virtual vs in person, consecutive day boot camps vs classes spread over a few weeks) and select a reputable company. I sometimes use free webinars that the training agencies offer as an “interviewing” process to see if that training agency is right for me.

You are correct that the certification is valid for 3 years once you’ve passed your exam and can be renewed by earning the qualifying PDUs.

Best of luck on your journey to PMI-PBA certification!

Eduard, as you are already PMP certified. 30-40 days are more than sufficient to prepare PMI-PBA.

Dear Ahmed, Yes, you can. As there is significant overlap between project management role and business analysis. You just need to map the experience in PBA for the Business Analysis domains.
