The new organizational forms seem to require new ways to exercise leadership, less focused and apical, but more distributed within groups of people. The starting assumption is that increase efficiency and communication to optimize decision-making processes of managers, for themselves and their companies, does not mean to become proficient in the latest-technology, but to have a clear idea of the relationship that you want and then build the style of leadership that you want to adopt.
Have you experienced this approach in your projects?
What were the results?
Do you think this approach could be useful in your management?
Thanks for sharing your opinion

Hello Fosco,

Seems something really interesting.
But i see some queries in this, not sure if I am correct in understanding it.

1) more distributed within groups of people : If that means more team member will be part of decision making then - I think currently project managers do OR should involve team members while making decision. but if the think is that few team members will be empowered to take decision then - will it create multiple power houses within the team ? With Agile being modus operandi, teams are becoming small, then is it really required in that scenario also ?

2) but to have a clear idea of the relationship that you want and then build the style of leadership that you want to adopt : I guess the organization structure and culture will play a vital role here.

Please correct me if I am wrong in understanding.

thanks Saurabh for your question, I try to answer them below:

1) collaborative leadership born from the necessity to go over traditional groups organization. In collaborative leadership group members nor involvement neither commitment are sufficient. It is necessary that people are engaged in the organization. The decision is no more an "action" by an accountable person or a restrict group of people but is a "process" where ALL group member participate actively;

2) the clear relationship idea is referred to the strategy you can adopt to allow your group to express the greatest added value in the organization.

I hope to help you to understand better the issue

Hello Fosco,

collaborative leadership increases the efficiency of the decision making process for sure. Moreover the people are more involved in the company and that increases also the personal efficiency. A risk that I have experienced is that some persons misuse of this type of leadership arguing each decision or proposal in negative way. So I think that it is correct to use a collaborative leadership and each person can explain his point-of-view but must be highlighted that only one person has the last word and when the decision is taken it cannot discuss anymore, otherwise collaborative leadership could be a brake and not a plus.

Hope this helps.

thanks Paolo,
I experienced the same issues and i totally agree that, at the end of the process where opinions/proposals are collected, a decision should be taken without any other discussion
