Appointing Business analysts is considered important by few organisations and project manager need to work in collaboration with Business analyst

And in few organisations, appointing Business analyst is seen as luxury. So they ask project manager to do Business analysis along with project management

In both cases Project manager should have knowledge about business analysis
and he /she should be aware about related process & responsibilities

Only PMP certified person, not necessarily have knowledge about it

Do you think business analysis should be matter of study as part of PMP certification?

Totally NO. While people like me that have been working in both roles from the very begining (and in my case I am part of the IIBA and the PMI group of standars authors and reviewer and I have been performed conferences around the world) is a big mistake to suppose that a project manager can work as business analyst IF they do not have the skills needed. Both are different roles. Both have different focus. The worst thing to do is to assign both roles to the same person no matter I have been working in this type of environments.

Dear Aniket,
Yes, It is the reality that some organisation have a hybrid project manager where he/she does both project management and business analysis. The Important point is that, there is significant overlap in project management and business analysis. PMI recognised it and introduced PMi-PBA certificate.
PM needs to know business analysis, even if there is dedicated business analysis.
For more details, why a project manager needs to know business analysis, you may refer my blog:

Sorry but fully disagree with Seema. There is no overlap between project manager and business analyst role. Both are different roles, both have different focus, both perform totally different tasks. In fact, buisness analyst work starts before the project exists and continue after the project ends. And while it could be good that one role knows about the other work is not a must. Both can perform the role without a deep knowledge about each other role characteristics. To know about how both work togeter take the PMI“s Practitioners Guide for Busines Analysis and take a look to "Collaboration Points" inside the guide.

Sergio, when I said "The Important point is that, there is significant overlap in project management and business analysis."

It was meant following lines of Business Analysis Practice Guide, Page Number 6:

Confusion exists between project managers and business analysts, because there is a perceived overlap of the work that each is responsible for performing. Confusion also exists because there are inconsistent definitions and use of the role across industries, organizations, and departments within the same organization. Confusion continues to build as the role evolves, and organizations that recognize the value of business analysis are beginning to employ more business analysts within their organizations.

This practice guide also explains the areas of perceived overlap and explains how the work is similar but not the same. Collaboration points are also used to call out opportunities for business analysts to work together with other roles in support of programs and projects

-----------------
Many organisations have hybrid Project Managers and for those organisation Project Managers needs to know business analysis in detail. I agree business analysis and project managers should be different role. For many tasks, like requirement gathering work looks similar for both but not the same.

Now you are talking about perception. Before you are not talking about perception you made an afirmation. So, if you are talking about perception I agree. And I fully disagree that project managers needs to know business analysis in detail. The same for business analysis: they do not need to know project management in detail. In case that both roles are performed by the same person then is totally obvious that the same person must know it in detail. And please sorry if I missunderstood.
