Hey guys,
I am familiar with Project and Portfolio Mgmt (PPM) tools for large organizations, such as Privamera, MS Project Server, HPPPM, Planview, etc.
But, what about small companies that are on budget? Does anyone know or can recommend tools that are simple enough and not expensive (free would be great too) for managing projects?
Here is what I am looking to manage:
1. Simple projects with tasks or activities assigned and tracked. Nothing fancy ... just simple and flexible.
2. Comments/chat from task users on the progress of those projects/tasks/activities
3. A simple Calendar to share project members' times and availability to arrange for meetings. Not necessarily send invites, but at least a place where one can see everyone's available/busy times.

Hi Amro
I don’t know how big your team is, but have you looked at something like Trello?
It’s pretty intuitive, easy to understand, and has a chat/discussion feature. You can even upgrade to include a calendar

In the small to medium size company I worked for we first used Wunderlist (a good task/assignment tracking tool for a small team) and then switched to Wrike when our team grew to a larger number. Both applications have mobile apps for any platform which makes both great tools for small project tracking and collaboration on the go.
Both tools have Outlook connections/addins where you can turn any email into a task, and if any email is a part of the tracked task, it will automatically sync within the PM tool.
Wrike would have more features you are looking for though. If you connect with an account manager, you can negotiate a good deal on subscription. (Small print: I am not endorsing any of these products:-)) Saving Changes...

It is nice to know some of the good tools from the members. Just want to provide one more useful tool from my side.
Asana seems to be pretty good tool to use. It is always free for teams up to 15. https://asana.com/
