According to Microsoft “When you use the Paste Special command (Edit menu) and click the Paste Link option, information is pasted as a linked object. Use linked objects if you want the information to reflect any changes to the original data or if file size is a consideration. With a linked object, the original information remains stored in the source file. The destination file displays a representation of the linked information but stores only the location of the original data. The linked information is updated automatically if you change the original data in the source file. For example, if you select a range of cells in a Microsoft Excel workbook and then paste the cells as a linked object or linked data in a Microsoft Project plan, the information is updated in Microsoft Project if you change the information in the Excel workbook.”

Senario
I created a project plan and began linking certain specified task to an EXCEL spreadsheet for reporting purposes. Everything was working well, as documented by Microsoft, until I decided to continue linking later on after having closed the project. At that point, I found the new link did not follow the previous link sequence ortake on its own identity. Example:

 The last link constructed was similar to this - MSProject.Project.9|'fppwRepair ProgramPMWorkplansLR Design.mpp'!'!LINK_142'.
 The newly created link was similar to this MSProject.Project.9|'fppwRepair ProgramPMWorkplansLR Design.mpp'!'!LINK_75. This displayed information that was linked to another project task earlier.
 I would have imagined that I should have obtained a link identifier of Design.mpp'!'!LINK_144' .

Again, Microsoft States, you can use Microsoft Office programs with Microsoft Project, you can use the information you create in Microsoft Project in other Office programs, and vice versa. You can share the information different ways, depending on how you want the information to appear, whether you want the information updated if the original file changes, and with whom you want to share the information.

Question & Help: Does anyone have prior experience in controlling the link array tables implementation. How do you add new project/tasks (new task links) at a later date, with out disrupting the prior links assigned?

Thank you in advance for any assistance you could provide,

Hi, I have a problem with what appears to be broken links. I have multiple MS projects schedules and wanted to link key milestones to MS excel for reporting purposes. I was using this method quite happily and recently for no apparant reason the I am getting '#NAME?' in the cell. Has anyone experienced this? Do you know what causes this to happen? Is there anyway to fix it?

Thanks

Project 2010 hyperlink field identifying number problems.

Having a very similar problem right now.

I am creating “=IF” hyperlinks from MS Project 2010 into MS Excel 2010. When creating the hyperlink by copying the cell in Project then using the Paste Special in Excel to generate the hyperlink. Project assigns the hyperlink an identifying number, which if I do several hyperlinks consecutively, the hyperlinks identifying numbers are also consecutive, even if the Project Cells are not. The problem happens when I go back again to create additional hyperlinks sometimes Project will assign the exact same identifying numbers this will automatically break any of those link previously created links. The majority of the previous hyperlinks are working but the identifying numbers are not being regenerated or used again. DOES ANYONE know how to restrict Project from using the same hyperlink an identifying number (also heard them called “link array table”) more than once? I am using Windows 7 Enterprise with Service Pack 1. Example hyperlink:

=IF(MSProject.Project.9|'\\company name.com\public\DriveL\share\- XECP Master Schedule -\ Master Schedule.mpp'!'!LINK_370'=1,"Approved",(IF(MSProject.Project.9|'\\companyname.com\public\DriveL\share\- XECP Master Schedule -\company name Master Schedule.mpp'!'!LINK_840'=1,"Submitted",MSProject.Project.9|'\\ companyname.com \public\DriveL\share\- XECP Master Schedule -\ Master Schedule.mpp'!'!LINK_63')))

This will put “Approved” into the Excel cell if the activity % Complete = 100%, put “Submitted” into the Excel cell if a different activity % Complete = 100%, or if neither of those are true put in the activity projection date into the cell.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
