The support that I provide currently to my customer now consists primarily designing schedules in MS Project. That's fine, but it's only the surface of what I could provide. Attempts to advise additional support in PM is shall I say difficult.

Make suggestions to them and show how what you'd like to do has helped other companies. In some company cultures, the FTEs are afraid of contractors so tread lightly.

I agree with Jennifer. In addition, you could look to expand your network by getting involved in local PMI Chapter(s), being active on online communities such as this one and LinkedIn

It's always frustrating when you see areas you can add value and are not given the opportunity. In this case, it sounds like you need to keep in mind that you have a customer you're serving and need to provide the services they are interested in paying for.

Good luck!

You are only as strong as your weakest link. Project management is a misunderstood job role, however formalized it is made to be, across companies, industry verticals, and in some more so than the other.

Knowing your interests and client interests will help you pace yourself. I may not offer all my services to the client / customer which I am passionate about, even though they may be closest to my heart.

If yo are unable to provide enough to chew - it's a problem. If you over feed them - that's a problem too! It's an art, and a science to figure out the right no and blend to provide to your customer. Good luck!
