After I saw someone post an answer to another question, I decided to post this tricky question...

Even though my experience had been the same as Michelle and Ranmali I think to get an initial certificate like Scrum Fundamentals Certified – SFC - or Project Management Associate - IPMA level D – is a good strategy.
Tales, so your input is to pursue the basic certifications as (SFC and IPMA), and then move on for some experience and finally pursue the other higher lever certs? Is this so?

Yes George, I think this is the best approach when possible.

Tricky question indeed.

It depends on the certification. But the case of PMP, being experience is definitely gonna be an asset duting the preparation for the certification.

I feel that experience is most important ingredient. Certification adds value only with experience, gives you upper hand. With only certification n no hands on experience, you can't claim better opportunities.

Agree, Foundation Level certifications are to gain knowledge. So they can be done before any experience. But expert Level certifications needs Experience.

In my opinion, either approach is fine... as long as you do BOTH and don't view them as being independent (or discrete) items in your development. Each one feeds and influences the other.
