How selective are you when someone requests to be included in your network? too often I see people without a profile nor much activity on there but they have very large networks. I tend to ignore these requests fearing they'll figure out a way to send me SPAM. What are your standards for accepting a request? How do you decide to whom you will submit a request? Like Michelle, I believe that connections are ways to help people on their journey. Obviously, everyone is at a different place on their project management road.
If I can help someone, then the connection is worth it.
By the way, in my over 20,000 connections, I only had two who were phishers.

You are lucky! I'm receiving a lot of SPAM, from plumbers trying to sell his services in the other side of the world until people asking for my personal phone number. Yes, I've reported them.
During last few day, I'm trying to increase my network around the world, in order to look for new business or job opportunities and connections. Some of the people that I've sent the network request sent me messages in my inbox "may I know you?" "Who are you?, why do you want to add me?" ...
I've answered them as polite as I could, thinking that maybe cultural differences made them don't include a simple "hi" or "thank you".

From my side, that never happened to me so far. I am like Stephane, probably had 2 or 3 incidents like that.

Sometimes you got to understand others problem as well. People here face different kind of situations in their day to day online activity. I receive multiple requests and spam messages and that irritates me a lot. Not all the times, being professional helps you.

I get requests from unknown people. Yes, there are some things I have accepted as cultural differences so I accept those invitations. But when I get an invitation form someone who hasn't completed their own profile -- I decline. Mine is far from done but a pic and a heading ought to be pretty easy to get us started knowing each other.

Stephane and Rami are headliners here, nobody want to scam you. :) Both of you have a huge network, 2 or 3 is nothing!

I do dislike getting SPAM (especially in my employer's account). None-the-less, I do try to take the high road until I'm sure it's not taking me where I want to go.

Agree, Bruce, picture, profile and sometimes their influence level will help me accept the people.
