Im planning to take the PMP exam by the end of this year and im using the PMBOK 2000 edition as one of my references. For those of you who have taken the PMP exam, can you suggest the references which may help me in taking the exam? I will also appreciate if you can point me to some sample exam questionaire pages.

The PMP Exam Prep book by Rita Mulcahy was exceptional. I also took the review course offered by my local PMI chapter. Passed the exam, the first time.

I am keen on taking this exam. When I saw the application form they have asked for 7500 hrs of PM activity. I have had experience of leading development teams and leading projects for about 6 years now. But not with a PM title in any of the organizations. Will my experience be considered if I apply?

Most assuredly, just make sure you state what functions you performed and that should suffice. Afterall, several people are called Project Managers and don't have a clue to what they are doing.

Thanks Elden Jones.

On the topic of requirements, there is a mandatory 35 contact hours one has to go through. I live in Mass. near Boston, Are there any institutes near Boston that gives these lessons.

On the topic of books. I am also interested to know if there are any e-books available in the NET for download on PM courses. I am going through some of the RUP and RDDP processes. Will these give an overall idea of PM?

For PMP Exam preparing, I took the ESI PMP Exam Prep Class. You receive study materials, PMBOK and great study tips...I passed it the first time!

Take a prep class! It's the only way to know where your weaknesses are and buy ref's based on that. You can spend endless $ on ref material. For the exam I found The Principles of Project Management by John R. Adams useful.
