Greetings, I am preparing for the PMP Exam and believe I would increase my chance for success with the communication of an experienced PMP or another student to study with. I have recently completed a PMP Boot Camp, but shortly after the course life took priority but now I am ready to move forward.
I would appreciate any recommendations or help available. Thank you for your time.

Best regards,
CMC Jeffrey Sherman, USCG (Ret.)

Hi, I think you should start studying with the material that you might have. You can study PMBOK Guide and a reference book side by side.

Hi Jerry,

There are several strategies I used in preparing to take the PMP exam:

1. Read PMBOK 2 times
2. Read Rita's 2 times
3. Utilized Rita's Flash Cards wherever I would go
4. Measured my progress using Rita's simulation exams
- I was careful not to take them too many times to reduce chance of question memorization
5. Created many blank 10x5 spreadsheets and practiced filling in content of 10 knowledge areas and 5 process groups
6. Created Inputs, Tools & Techniques, and Outputs spreadsheet to practice ITTO's

Send me a request if you'd like a copy of the spreadsheets mentioned above.

Looks like you received a lot of good tips and pointers, Jerry. As you start your journey towards the PMP, you may have more specific questions. We will be here to help you out.

Jeffrey,
I would suggest that you search for a PMI Chapter near you and ask one of the board members to post your request for a study partner to their site and / or membership list. I studied with a group of people a long time ago and found the discussion aspect to be very helpful in concept retention. Best of luck to you.
