It's easy to get confused between Work Performance Information and Performance Reports.

Terms sounds alike and even looks alike.

Work Performance Data is the raw data that is compared to plan data in the control processes and results in respective Work Performance Information =WPI (e.g. data would be you spent 1 Mio Euro on an activity, it gets meaning only if you compare it to the planned 1 Mio Euro, and that meaning is: all in line).

Performance reporting is creating reports from WPI and other information, tailored to the needs of the different stakeholder groups (e.g. steering committee, project team, users ...). It includes changing the representation of WPI.

EVM information is only one type of WPI. There are many other types of WPI, e.g. team satisfaction, quality measurements, communication effectiveness.

Best clarification in Appendix X1 to PMBOK Guide 5th Ed, specifically section X1.5:

- Work Performance Data = raw measurements (absolute numbers) like % work complete or # days between actual finish and planned finish of a task
- Work Performance Information = data in context, such as work is behind schedule or task is late
- Work Performance Reports = presentation of information, e.g. a partially filled bar or a red flag next to that task

Hope it helps,
