I am a proud owner of CBAP Certification. I strongly believe that experience can be refined with adequate educational resources for any role, whether PM or BA.
I have gained a lot from my CBAP preparation and my experience as a BA which helps me in managing the projects better.
Unfortunately, not everybody agrees. Recently a friend who is working as a BA told me the de-merit of BA certification and details of her research about the same!!
How do you deal with such people, especially if they are part of the project team. This person is a BA on my project, performs what is asked, however, there is no innovation or any wow deliverables from her. This mode can lead to monotony and boredom among teams gradually affecting the team morale. Saving Changes...
RMA, I don't know that there is a blanket answer here.
I would make this a conversation tailored specific to your/her specific situation. What are the WOW expectations you have of her/that team member, what is the gap between current performance and desired performance, and how does BA education/certification solve the gap?
If you work through logically, perhaps you establish a direct correlation and help them see the benefit of education/certification Saving Changes...
Appreciate the reply Samuel. In nutshell, ask logical, derived and analytical project-specific questions to the team member and understand if she really needs the certification to help improve the delivery of my project.
Great Reply, thank you! Saving Changes...
In my opinion such people have not worked in complex projects or businesses to understand the need and implication of every little/big post defined in the process. When I face such a situation I put forward questions where need of a certain job is inevitable.

I support that. And some, even if they worked in complex Environments, didn't get the point, what could help.
Samuel's suggestion could work. Try to clarify expectations - and get her to see the help she would gain from the education.

RMA, I have heard of others face the same critique by their colleagues in the past. Professional certification is a great milestone in professional development if you pick the right certifying body. Business analysis, as you know, is a broad discipline; lots to know and learn and its always evolving. Few practitioners can call themselves a master so obtaining certification is a great way to challenge yourself and learn about other aspects of business analysis that you may not get the opportunity to explore within your current organization or on projects you are assigned. Certification demonstrates your commitment and willingness to invest and learn about your profession; that can’t be a bad thing! You even state you have gained a lot from going through the process, and you will if the certification is provided by a respected professional organization. There are a lot of professions that benefit from continuing education, business analysis is no different. If considering professional certification in business analysis, do your homework and look at the options out there. Find a strong professional organization, with name recognition that employers know and who provides a wealth of products and services to support you in your career, that isn't always the first organization that has hit the market with a certification product.
