While reading another discussion, I wondered if anyone else has experienced an audit for a PMI certification? I did, for my third application.

I did set up a poll to capture some numbers:

Share you audit story here.

Stephane, I have not experienced an audit and joked with another person how when I applied for my PMP I wasn't audited and I soon plan to submit my PMI-ACP and should be audited. I feel it safe to state I would embrace a PMI audit versus IRS.

I wasn't audited for my PMP, but I'm curious on what the audit process is like.

I was audited for my PMP and I was asked to send my bachelor's degree copy and a reference letter from my manager stating my experience.

Thanks
Bala

Bala, correct me if wrong however I was told from an instructor at a PMI sponsored study group that if audited, all we do is ask for the requested item(s) and hand over to the person who can substantiate the experience? A person under audit would never touch the item thus reducing the chance of "fraud", is this accurate?

I was audited for my RMP, I had much more than what they needed almost 3 times the training, and about double the hours.

I need to get the personne to sign a document, PMI generate from your application, put in an envelop that they sign on the opening (proof of not open)before they get it back to you, gather all documents and send to PMI.

I was considering an other certification, but not sure I want to go through an other audit, took months to get some documents back to include in the envelop for PMI.

I can certainly describe my own experience with my PMI-RMP application.

As soon as I paid for my application, I received an email that my application was being audited. They then pointed me back to the PMI certification page where I could click on my application and follow the audit requirements.

I had to show proof of the education requirements, in this case 40 hours of risk management education. I also had to get someone to sign off on my experience. I then sent all this by courier. The same day the documents were received by PMI, I received a reply saying that I had successfully passed the audit.

The big hiccough for me was that I had to apply twice. The first time I had used some 1990s courses I had taken in project management as continuous education through a university-sponsored consortium. I was unable to find any supporting material in my possession, through the university or even my former employer. I had to formally withdraw my application.

Of course, I was only given part of the money back. (I had been told I would get a greater amount back than what PMI allows. I was not happy at the reneging.) I then took an online enterprise risk management course at University of Toronto that gave me the necessary provable requirements. I re-applied and was automatically audited again.

I was audited when I got my PMP certification. But because I was aware about the possibility exists (after reading all related to certification I undestood that you could be elegible after pay for the certification and before the PMI check your data) I took base with the people I put as my project contacts before I fill the certification application to be sure that they will be available if I need something from them. So, no problem in my case.
