I got my CAPM because I don't have the practice hours for the PMP yet. I wanted to push myself professionally and grow in my career.
I haven't seen any change in my career just yet as I only got it a month ago, but I do feel more confident in Project Management and believe it will make me look better than the candidate without any certifications. Saving Changes...
That is a great initiative! I took the CAPM at the beginning of my project management career. As I didn't know very much I started with the theory - the PMBoK - and proved my knowledge by passing the CAPM. Colleagues and customers were equally acknowledging my certification and capabilities.
It was the perfect start as I had a framework, tools, and techniques at hand which I then could practice and master in my daily project management work.
Now that I am an experienced practitioner I chose not to take the PMP - although that was my goal all the time. Instead, I will now take the ACP, because I am experienced in implementing and applying agile techniques, too, which is why I now decided to proof both - not only my traditional, but also my agile experience with this certification.
