Are PDUs helpful for current projects?

PDUs ---- as PDU are just numbers to help you renew your certification. Now how did you earn those PDUs and what did you do/learn to achieve them is the question. The concept is that PDU are earned from continuing education - which, in theory should help you improve performance; if applied.

New to PMP world. I should earn a few PDUs next month at our local chapter. They are hosting a seminar.

Hi Von,

does "new" meaning that you want to become a PMP and are right in the beginning of your preparations for certification?
And if so, might be we are talking here not about the PDUs which are necessary to maintain your earned credentials but talking about the so called" 35 contact hours" which are needed as one of the eligible requirements, could this be?

Well if so, than please refer to the follwoing guide about how to earn those 35 contact hours:

HI Von,

Agreed with Mounir. PDU only for maintaining your PMP. However, again certain PDU also can improve your current projects that you handling since you yourself improve your performance with this continuous education via PDU process.

I tend to lean towards webinars for my PDU needs (with a couple of courses here and there as time allows). For that reason, I look for things that are of interest to me personally or ones that may relate to stuff I am working on. For example, recently agile study has been a focus.

Remember that PDUs is just PMI's way to entice you into continued learning and growth. PDUs are only a means to the real end - your increased proficiency as a project manager.
