Cleary, unsuccessful projects fail to meet one or more goals/objectives, and great discussion could take place about whether to label something as "unsuccessful" even when some aspect is missed.

Regardless of how you distinguish successful from unsuccessful projects, what differences do you see in various processes, output, and so forth? For defining, planning, controlling, and so forth, are there any shared characteristics that we see in the metrics for successful projects, versus those same characteristics for unsuccessful projects? For example, is there more time spent in Control for unsuccessful projects? Is there more time spent in Planning for successful projects?
