If you can't measure it you can't track it.
And is with every other management aspects, tracking you leadership growth is vital.
But how can we measure leadership growth ? Saving Changes...
It's an amazing article, but you have to read first about The Evolution of Human Consciousness which I believe is the base for any growth.
However, as a short answer, I believe the top 10 measurement tools for the most of the leadership are : 1. Identify Key Performance Indicators 2. Create Smart Sheet Evaluations 3. Build Communication Plan 4. Design the Dashboard 5. Provide Executive Reports, Scorecards, and Statements 6. Conduct Capability Assessment 7. Perform a Test/Certification 8. Gather Sponsor Satisfaction Data 9. Deploy On-the-Job Reinforcement 10. Conduct Business Impact Exercise Saving Changes...

Is impossible to meassure something that is not defined. There is not concensus about leadership definition. On the other side, it has no sence to meassure it. Mainly because when you ask organizationa about what does means you will surprise. Saving Changes...

Thanks Sameh.
@Sergio - my intention for asking this question was to identify key drivers which can suggest at what level the respective person is in terms of his leadership skills. I thought this to be important because great leaders give you great results. And if the manager has leadership results in front of him he will be sure about the outcome he is expecting. So I was thinking that if common qualities of leader can be used as KPI's to measure leadership. Like for e.g one of the important aspect of leadership is grooming his team members, so the KPI can be how many has been groomed and are now working independently in the team after grooming, further you can also track their results to be sure about if they were groomed well.
again I am not sure if I am thinking on correct line...but just a thought and trying to make project management better. Saving Changes...

Once again, you can not meassure something that is not defined or is not an agreement about its definition. That is my point. Saving Changes...

Yes Sergio I agree that leadership cannot be defined, but what if for an organization it is well defined with expected qualities and results ? Will it be logical then to measure it ?
And if that is a success should organization strive to define their understanding of leadership ? or rather make clear what they meant by leadership ?
sorry for posing too many questions, but this context is what really interest me, of defining things very clearly. As you have rightly pointed to it. This has again raised my level of anxiety of knowing it now. Thanks for inputs Sergio. Saving Changes...
Is the idea to focus on an individual or organizational level? I agree there is a lack of facts and figures, but that doesn't mean one should not focus on development - imho. There are maturity models out there - you may check those regarding leadership. Maybe that's a helpful hint, maybe not. ;)
All the best

My point is behind Christina comment. You have to start by analyzing the model you like to use at organizational or individual level. I have used a lot. In fact, right now, in the organization where I am working today, we are using a model behind "we think" (Charles Leadbeater:
http://charlesleadbeater.net/2010/01/we-think/). But that is my point. All starts with a clear definition about leadership inside your organization (in fact, because your organization changes, your organization definition and focus on leadership could change too). I can write a lot about that. But unfortunatelly this is a topic where all have to be aligened with your organization mainly the organizational culture. Saving Changes...

I believe you can measure this in only one way: The outcome of the jobs you manage, relationships with the different stakeholders, and so on. Saving Changes...

yes agree with you Rami, my thinking was same that is we can develop certain KPI's with proper justification and explaination and give them some numerical values then we can measure leadership. For e.g if I say that if the designated leader presents invovative idea he will gain 2 points and implementing it will gain him 4 points and producing outcome from it will gain him 10 points. then we can surely give targets to leaders.
am I correct in my understanding ? Saving Changes...
I'm agree with Rami, of course an intelligent measurement system can be created by identifying specific milestones / goals which the leadership need to deliver in a specific time or period. Saving Changes...
