I noticed people having local PMI chapter membership, as well as membership in other cities, and countries. How this benefit?

Not sure about larger group, but I don't see much activities planned & happening. I see gap in communication, lesser events planned for community engagement, minimal updates, and few other. Is it worth associating with chapters?

Hi Anupam,

The Chapters are the local link between you and PMI. They offer different core and extended services additionally to your global membership benefits. A Chapter membership usually costs only a few USD per year. Therefore you receive e.g. localized content like regional news or contents in your language, event invitations to network and gain PDU for your recertification, local job offers, and a lot more.

As Chapters are managed by Volunteers (!) there are differences in their offerings, maturity, and opportunities. Just contact you local Chapter and ask what they offer in your area, they'd be happy to share their insights with you.

Thanks Christina!!

Is it advisable to take membership from other local chapters in different region, cities, and countries?

I came across with profiles having membership from more than 10+ chapters, both national and international. Not sure of the value that it brings.

No it does not mean so ... You can contact any chapter but to make the best out of your chapter membership, it is advisible to connect with your local chapters.

Hey Anupam,

There will be different reasons why people choose to connect with several Chapters - I guess I only know some of them from people that do so, so here they are - probably incomplete :) :

- being in different cities quite often Chapter memberships in these cities help them connect with other locals and allow to join e.g. member only events there, too
- joining another Chapter that has extensive member only benefits - also for "remote members" like a virtual community, slide decks and white papers, other resources...
- joining a network that you couldn't access otherwise (peers, recommendations, job offers in that area)
- applying for a Chapter Volunteer Opportunity as many of those are available for Chapter members only
- just supporting these Chapters because they are convinced these are important

Again, Chapters offer different services therefore just check what you are looking for and what they offer. As a public Website is mandatory for Chapters you will find a lot about them online. A global list is available on pmi.org.

Agreed on benefits each chapter offers - opportunity to volunteer, connect with members, white papers, PDUs, career opportunities, etc.

Nevertheless, it is interesting to know why people choose to become member of several chapters.

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated.
