When a team becomes dysfunctional it?s usually due to a distraction that has become the main attraction in their daily routine. The problem could be the result of a feeling of betrayal of the leadership or it could that momentum has been allowed to drag.
Whatever the reason it is important to facilitate the team to ferret it out and address it head on. The facilitation must be done by an independent party with no stake in the project. There should be multiple sessions including some one-on-ones.
Once the source(s) have been identified then a strategy can be designed to get the project back on track. In many ways this can be treated as a process improvement effort. First Discovery of what is BAD, then the Identification of GOOD and finally the corrective actions needed to achieve GOOD.
