A SW PM told me in a discussion that their PMO applies SDLC method on SW projects and not keen to migrate to Scrum mainly because Scrum methodology requires the presence of the customer or constant engagement with the customer compared to SDLC.
I'm no expert in Scrum or SDLC. Thus would like to seek opinions of experts or SW PMs in this wonderful forum.

Whether you call them the external customer, internal customer, voice of the customer, Product Owner etc., yes, I believe that role is necessary for the Scrum approach. I can't see why someone would develop software without a customer... if it is an external customer, then an internal equivalent needs to be appointed and engaged as the Owner role Saving Changes...

First, we need to understand that each methodology has its own SDLC defined. Second, I use SCRUM with highly distributed team around the world and its work. Thrid, is your intention is to use some agile software developement method first of all take a look to other methods (like DSDM) AND MOST IMPORTANT (sorry about the capital letter): take a look if your organization is ready by making an enterprise analysis first. For example, you can use Tom Peter´s Seven S model to do that. Saving Changes...
What is the likelihood of delivering what the customer requested without their involvement? I would attempt to explain some of the differences, as well as, similarities of SCRUM and Waterfall. Saving Changes...

The customer is always involved. The question is how (i.e. arm's length vs co-location) and when (during vs after development). Saving Changes...
