As ISO21500: Guidance on Project Management matures I begin to wonder how it will impact on the profession of project management. The same question can be asked about other standards such as ISO21503, ISO21504 etc . . . . What are your thoughts on this?

Given that the ISO standards in project management are still relatively new it's hard to predict the future impact. Not only that they are guidance only (as such compliance is voluntary), but we should also remember that ISO does not do the same level of advertising as other organizations do.

I can see only 2 ways for these standards to have a real impact:
- (many) countries adopt them as national standards, and/or
- future editions become normative standards, rather than informative as they are today.

I guess we'll have to wait and see...
