Being the leader doesn’t mean that one has earned respect. Some take their title, position, and authority for granted. It’s the fear that drives, and not the respect. What will you do different, to be respected as a leader?

Give of my time directly to my team, probably the most precious thing I have to give. For example, once a month I spend a full day 1-1 with one of my direct reports. This is in addition to weekly individual check-in meetings, weekly team meetings, and being available over digital collaboration tools. My staff have told me that they greatly value and appreciate my giving of my time.
Awesome!! Thanks Beth.

Anupam, In my long career, I have learned that approaching my team members as if they are my customers helps. I take a view that I am here to serve them and help them become the best they can be. I believe taking time to clarify the vision, listening to their input and working as a partner has helped me earn the team's respect (at least in my opinion:).

Wish you leadership, Niraj
