Other than facing the detrimental consequences of poor or no planning, based on your research Sandra, what are some of the major challenges individuals/companies may face while managing small projects?

What I found in my research is that sometimes people do not project management tools and techniques. They think that small projects do not require discipline and then lose track of key project activities. I also found that it is difficult to obtain or retain resources for small projects. I am aware of an organization that used small projects as a training opportunity for inexperienced project managers or project team members. This often became a problem when inexperienced project managers or team members were left alone without support from more experienced individuals.

Sandra, is there any standard definition for a "small" project? I have seen different people quantify small project teams differently. Will like to hear others' take on this as well.

I did not find a standard definition for "small" projects. What I found in my research was criteria for helping the organization determine what is small. The project environment and budget are important considerations. What is considered small for one organization may be considered large for another.

How do you define or categorize a small project?
