Balaji - Straight and clear answer, I like that...

If you want to read some more (not that I agree with the article) but it surely help me think out of the box.

The quoted links from Customer.io and Experian in turn are all related to email marketing strategies.
Questions about correlation and causation aside in these posts, it is in no way related to a project manager sending regular communication emails, unless you're specifically talking about a project to send marketing email (some stakeholders may say spam).

It is also difficult to have a common understanding on terms like "regular communication" without any further context provided in the original question.

Different situations have different needs. Instead of a "one-size-fits-all", it might be better for the project manager to adapt the communication to the specific situation.

I believe communication is key to success. E-Mails have repetedly shown me that they are interpreted different by different people and even more different when working global with different cultures. Therefore, I have switched to meetings and video conferences, as well as instant messaging. Of course there are recurring communication matters which I distribute by email, but verbal and visual communication ensure equal understanding across the audience if you make sure you repeat what was discussed and agreed in a summary at the end of the meeting to everyone. Make sure you always identify and name only one person to be responsible for something and you will get the team to perform and identify themselves with the overall goal and risks handling.

I strongly suggest sending them Tuesday morning. People tend to PTO or mentally aren't ready to work on Mondays or Fridays. If a follow-up or a reminder email is necessary, I would send that out Thursday afternoon.

Great discussion, we've shared it on our blog, the Critical Path and hope to see the thoughts of more PM's in the responses!

Trick question; shouldn't it be in your communication plan? :)

As many have already mentioned, 'as-needed' is the best time to send.

But no bad news on before the weekend :)

Mac - So for you it's Friday is the worst they to send out an email?

When do you consider, is the worst day of the week for a PM to send out an important communication email?

Interesting topic. I will not prefer to send an email on Friday to stakeholders about the work going to be started on Monday. Also, will not send any questions to sponsors on Friday, if I need an answer by Monday. We need to plan the activities linked/dependent on the reply of your communication.

Some people play a trick, when you ask a status and they would send you at the end of the day to you may not ask follow-up questions.

In my team some of the people arrive late on Monday and leave early on Friday. I avoid any communication on meetings on early Monday and EOD Friday.

Ideally, if you want an answer by Monday, you will send the question any time it is ready but do not wait till Friday.

Some people have life principle that they do not check emails over WeekEnd but you still check and respond emails over Weekend. Do not inform any thing about project except it is EXTREMELY SERIOUS.

For an "important communication mail" there is no best day, it has to be communicated immediately to the appropriate audience, otherwise it maybe will be outdated.
For regular communication mails select a day to your needs: e.g. monday to inform about the activities of the upcoming week or friday about what happend in the past week. Or the day after the regular project (status) meeting with the customer about the outcome.
And describe it in your "Communication plan" so every stakeholder is aware about the communication to expect.
Totaly agree Manfred.

For key issues, as soon as possible, preferably in a formal communication matter/method.

Efficient communication means providing only the information that is needed - going by this principle there is no Best or Worst day of the week to send out email. Crisp and precise communication will keep updated all the concerned stakeholders.

Aejaz - I understand that everything should be in the Communication plan, so you may be right is everything is included there.

What would you include in your communication plan regarding regular emails (NOT URGENT), would you indicate the regular Project Manager emails should be send out any day of the week (including weekends)?

You may want to read a bit more of the topic. There is always more room for learning.

I'm not saying I disagree because it really depends what behind your comments, but I would suggest for you to research a bit and give us your thoughts once you do.

It's really nice sharing and open up to new learning.

There seems to be some scientific reasoning behind this discussion, not sure how accurate it is, but it surely worth considering and commenting.
