You have to understand what a business analyst is. Go to the definition inside the IIBA´s BABOK (or the site itself) which is the organization which started the role (I was part of that) and from now you can go to PMI´s Practitioners Guide too. Basically, a business analyst is a person who understand the business problem, helps the organization to solve the problem and creating the solution, and continue meassuring if the expected benefits are achieved. All of this using systemic thinking which means to integrate the whole organization in order to avoid the impacts. Business analyst is a portfolio/program/project manager provider (nothing of that exists without business analysis work).
