I'm trying to create a way for the 'workerbees' to put time to a project w/o having to use MS Project at all. Is there away to create an Access database that will pull project information (task, start date, finish date, etc) from MS Project... populate fields in the database and then once the user has entered his hours pull the hours back into MS Project?

If you are using Project 2002, the only way is through the professional version and the server app - or at least that is what Microsoft are saying - if you find out this is not the case, then let me know!

Brian.

You can save an ms Project as a project database and then use access to use the tables. File / save as then select pro0ject database. You can then open that file in either access or project.

Your trick will be in determining which columns on the tables you actually need to have your team update. There are a number of technical fields that support how project works, but the data fields are there as well.

I did a quick test and updated a task name in access and reopened project and the change was there. I think you will be ok with issues like recalculation. When you reopen the project I would think it would recalculate.

I think it is possible to do what you want.

Good Luck.

Briana,

I did recently something similar with "integrating" MS Accees/SQL&MS Project and a web interface.

The process is quite simple:

1.I've created a simple web interface linked to an Access or SQL database(or you can create the interface directly in Access). The trick is to have the same table structure in Access/SQL like in MS Project

2.I did setup an export process in MS Project using the built in maping capabilities.

3.The working bees enter time against tasks from MS Project using the simple web interface

4.Project manager runs the export/import procedures from MS Project when is needed.

Let me know if you need more info- i think I have a small prototype I can share with you.

Thanks
