Hello, trying to get across to Business that we need to inventory all exising processes by functional area. I'd like to include system only processes as well as human(workflow) processess for each area, but I'm meeting with resistance. My end goal is to have a inventory that will be updated from requirements and help define the requirements as well. Example, Business Development creates new product. requirements are written and then compared to the process list for impact assessment. If something was missed changes will be made as needed. Are my goals for this process too ambigous? thanks neil Saving Changes...

Neil, I would focus on the core cross functional processes. I did a similar project in 1996 using Lotus Notes. The result was a system that allowed us to cross reference people, to work processes, to regulatory requirements and more. It was quite an undertaking because we mapped every workflow along with associated costs.
The processes I would focus on are the ones that deliver the most value or have the potential of detracting the most value.
I would also suggest that you consider an improvement approach. An inventory might be hard to sell. But attacking processes that are not delivering the value that management and stakeholders expect and developing ways to improve them has the potential for big paybacks.
Management may not see the return on an inventory of processes.
