Is Resource Break Down Structure similar to WBS?

RBS is one of the out puts of Estimate Activity resources. Is it similar to WBS in format except for the fact that RBS has to do with human resource and WBS with activities? Is it really necessary to maintain a RBS for a project?

Yes, RBS is similar to WBS. RBS is for all type of resources. As any other type of tools you can decide if RBS has to be created and maintained or not.
But decomposition is used in WBS and we are not using such activity in RBS. Then how can it be similar as the results are also not similar. Can you please explain.

Just to comment, RBS (Resource Breakdown Structure) is about any type of resources not human resources only.
