@scott good comments. In the context of project management Murphys law is also about unexpected change, right? So get those back out plans and integrated change control processes ready. And since change is constant, Captain Murphy's legacy is likely to follow.

Murphy's Law and Change are the only constants in projects.
It often comes into play in communications. I try to err on the side of over-communicating, but that one time you miss someone in your email distribution, it will definitely turn out that that person needed to know about that information the most. Saving Changes...

Murphy's Law statement is "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong" but we can reduce the impact caused by this. "Mitigate" strategy for Risk Response takes about the same Saving Changes...

Interesting, I knew he was USAF but not that he was an O-4 at the time.
Why don't you start a new discussion, Guillaume, around it? I'm sure there are a lot of opinions out there?

George, let me put this in a reverse psychology, let us say there is a project manager that doesn't believe in Murphy's law and he builds the (almost) perfect project plan, then the project is on the way and things start to go wrong, what will happen is that there is a 99% that the project manager did not have a risk management process.
My point is that it is always important to remember that Murphy's law exist in the nature and it is very important to take it into consideration in every WBS of the project.

How could the project manager have a (almost) perfect project plan if the project manager does not have a risk management process? The risk management plan is a subsidiary of the project management plan.

Exactly my point, that one percent that he will be missing to have the 100% plan is in the risk management process, since he doesn't believe in Murphy's Law then he doesn't need a risk proof risk management process.
