Raoul, I like your answer to Swapneel's question! I recently had a situation where working on alignment of stakeholder expectations prior to the kick off would have helped immensely. Even just asking them to state their expectations in a meeting would have helped as, had I understood how far apart they were in their expectations, I would have the known the level of trouble the project would be in once it was kicked off.

Cool! Your awareness of that will certainly help you in the next one, and hopefully you'll never need to hold stakeholders accountable, because proactively everyone's ships will be sailing in the same direction. Best!

ANAND AHUJA: Question : How about one word - Integrity for all the three words - Authenticity, Courage, Trust or even Sincerity?
-----------------------
YES! Whatever words or language are appropriate for YOUR environment are the right ones.

For example, we worked with a client that wanted to have more accountability in their culture. That's the word we used.

When we interviewed their stakeholders and PMs, it turns out the word THEY used was "ownership." So, that's the term that made the most sense there.

To reinforce what we said: when you weave in the "project leadership/CEO" world into the "project management" world, you're intentionally deciding to bring in ambiguity, grayness, and complexity. Most people in technical/engineering roles crave 0/1 binary black/white answers and thinking. That's why we love project schedules and itemized lists. It's crystal clear. But trust, relationships, integrity, and so forth are very much subject to each person's perspective and worldview.

To add to Raoul's response, there are 2 perspectives.
1) Whatever language or words work for you is what's important for 'you.'
2) When working with a client, it's helpful to listen for the language THEY use. Too often we can get stuck in our own language, acronyms, etc.

As Nelson Mandela said, "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart."

Cheers!

Jayaram Bhogi: QUESTION: How to handle the situation when most of the audience are in a different accent and dialect than the presenter?
------------------------
Tough one! Even though I've worked and lived around the world, I still fall into using American idioms that slip into my language.

Visuals can help instead of literal words, depending on the topic.

Asking someone else to listen for unclear words or terms that mean different things in different accents/dialects is another.

Speed and pace matter. If possible, try to create a feedback loop WITHIN the audience so that you know if something isn't quite sounding correct for THEM.

In a live audience it's much easier.

Buena Suerte! (Good luck!)

-------------------------------
Covered this a bit in webinar and want to emphasize. Clear-cut evidence that growth mindset (Carol Dweck) and neuroplasticity shows wide capability of humans / human brains regardless of age.

Are there outliers who absolutely cannot have empathy or have basic interpersonal skills? Yes of course, and unfortunately there are sociopaths and other mentally unstable people in the workplace.

By and large, almost every adult professional knowledge worker is not only CAPABLE, but should become the LEADER of themselves, first.
